Spring Cleaning in Healthcare

Spring cleaning isn't just for your home—it can also benefit your healthcare practice! As the seasons change, it's a great time to tidy up and refresh your healthcare processes. Here are some spring cleaning (quarterly cleaning) tips that we recommend our clients follow:

  • Review and update policies and procedures: Take this time to review your practice's policies and procedures. Ensure they are up to date with current regulations and best practices. Update any outdated information and communicate changes to your team. At Ignite, we keep an inventory of all our SOPs and update them quarterly. Don’t forget to ensure athenahealth release updates are incorporated with these changes.

  • Clean up your billing practices: Review your billing practices to ensure accuracy and compliance. Address any outstanding claims or denials promptly. Consider conducting a billing audit to identify and correct any billing errors. Additionally, we recommend reviewing the following admin tables in athena:

  • Order Type and Procedure Template Mapping

  • Custom Rules

  • Local Rules (via case with athenahealth CSC)

  • Educate and train your staff: Provide training and education to your staff on any new policies, procedures, or technology updates. Ensure that everyone is on the same page and understands their roles and responsibilities. This is especially true with athena’s release training. It is important to promote professional development so that your team continues to follow best practices.

  • Evaluate and improve workflows: Take a critical look at your practice's workflows and identify areas for improvement. Look for ways to streamline processes and reduce inefficiencies.
